Without You (I’m Just An Empty Shell)

(2024) Created during my month residency at Newport Art Museum in Newport, RI.

Crafted entirely by hand without the use of any power tools, this functional sculpture is based off of the shell shape of an oyster species, opens with a hinge and is handmade out of felted wool that I sourced from local sheep farms. The experimental design functions as a chair when the shell is opened and is an imaginative work of fantasy that is both uncanny & enchanting.

Materials: felted raw wool and silk fibers, epoxy clay, foam, steel, acrylic, various silk fabrics.

Dimensions (closed): 18” x 30” x 30” (open) 46”H x 30”W x 36”D
